BEADSonCHAIN is Grey Pearl studio's signature design concept. What started by chance in 2011, grew into a small collection of Coco Chains; at first presented only to a small circle of loyal supporters. We proudly think of them as Grey Pearl's pioneer users; all were ladies with flair for dressing and an open eye for the unusual.
Coco Chains - the signature collection, consists of bracelets and necklaces with delicate Swarovski pearls beaded onto chains. The result is timeless, and Coco Chain is still the most favoured design. Handmade - for private commissions Grey Pearl's pieces are hand made by Tittin. Our pieces tend to look their best when perfectly fitted to your size. This means items are not in stock, we make them when you ask. Please expect some waiting. |
Good jewellery pieces must also have all the qualities below.
Jewellery should be flattering - make you shine and look your best.
Jewellery should be comfortable to wear - even if large or long. Jewellery should look best on a person - not best on the website. Jewellery should be lasting and affordable - to make a good gift. Jewellery should come with a story - which makes it nicer to own! And of course - Jewellery should make you smile!
Then we have done our job well. |
"For me, design is a tangible way of expression; it's how I share my believes. I have worked in various fields of design all my adult life. Designing is what I know best, so I constantly design.
I like people, talking and sharing. People fascinate me; people is why I design. Every person is a walking story. Stories everywhere means constant inspiration
I talk like I think; which also shapes my work. My thoughts are long and windy, and lead to jewellery with a story. So I turn thoughts into jewellery and try to talk a little less...

The loyal private customers.
Those imaginative people in the industry. That irresistible, personal fashion shop. All with a free mindset and an easy smile. Grey Pearl bracelets are for the likeminded: • who care what you wear.
• who feel unique and like to shine. • who like jewellery to reflect your personality. • who have strong opinions about design. In addition, Grey Pearl studio always welcomes the "difficult" customer. In fact, demanding customers are highly valued because they're the best source of inspiration and learning. Yes, I'll even encourage you to be a tiny bit difficult, for the sake of progress and new and better designs!

Background
Norwegian born, but spent formative early years in mountain laced Switzerland, always with pencil in hand. Educated in Norway, at Oslo National Academy of the Arts, majoring in printed textiles. Stayed on in the colder North as freelance textile designer and later also as a young mother of three. Kept warm and alive on hot coffee. Next, twelve "wine&baguette" years, mostly engaged in art, now in balmy south of France with lemon trees in the garden. In 2015 it was back to mountainous Switzerland again - to trains, cows and chocolate. Also, back to full time pencil work; completing the circle.
Work
All my life I’ve created and designed with colours as torch, passion and infinite source of inspiration. Colour supports all I do; whether painted portraits or writing. The portraits on the site are by my hand. The models were real, but later digitally adorned with jewellery. These days, colour also guides my jewellery designs; en extended form of portraits and stories. After years of design work in different fields related to colours, interiors, fibre and art - it's back to the core - to a fascination with adornment, stories and design. A long story... Read the long story here.

GREY PEARL studio is not about endless strings of pearls, or grey jewellery in particular. Although, we use a lot of pearls, and some will be nice and grey, no doubt!
Pearls are my absolute favourite gems. The grey pearl in particular. The perfect big grey pearl is like a black swan. Uncommon. The pearl symbolizes
an ideal worth striving for; the grey pearl is my personal vision of beauty and accomplishment. Created by nature - carefully helped by man. Grey is the accent designers can’t do without. Grey is a colour we come back to again and again. Grey is part black and part white; an amalgam of a child's "white-dress-dream" and the adult "designer-black-outfit".

Grey Pearl studio's five Cs
Customer - without someone to share with, it's pretty meaningless. Grey Pearl studio's wonderful customers constantly guide and inspire us to make new and better creations.
Colour - nothing lifts the spirit, or any sombre grey, black, beige outfit like a cheerful contrasting bracelet. Besides, colour is our torch and guide in all our work. And yes, I'm one of these obsessed designers who colour-code and arrange everything by colour.
Chains - will add fluidity and interest to any strand of lovely beads. The diversity of chains constantly inspires new designs. We're always asking "What else than an old strand of pearls can be enhanced by chains?"
Collecting - Museum collections and beautiful illustration plates have inspired the presentation. A collector at heart, I have a fair share of stones and seashells squirreled away; and at times I indulge in the happy distraction of arranging collections of found objects.
Care - for you, us, and the planet. As a designer I care about what we're sending out in a world already too full of things. Here's my thinking: As a person I care about what makes people happy, in life and work. As a professional I care about doing my work better and better.

GOOD TO KNOW
For a good collaboration it helps to know each other. A few points: Our background is design focused. Grey Pearl prototypes are skilfully hand-made, but not by goldsmiths. To illustrate a design we use photos and drawings or bead up a little test. The site gives an idea of how we work and what we value, both professionally and personally. |
