About Grey Pearl jewellery materials
,Semi precious stones
For collectors at heart collecting pebbles or stones is often the first step to a passion. For me it was. Limited to pebbles, shape and finish ruled the pick, with pure white or black ranking highest for lack of bright colours. The dream of finding a colored crystal drove me to books, which sealed the interest. Finally getting to use stones and minerals is closing the circle. Knowing a bit about how stones look in their raw state makes the "real thing" more attractive. For the most part wen prefer to use natural stone - not reconstituted, dyed or deceptively treated stones. That is, unless a treatment has become the expected standard for a certain stone, like heat treatment, to change or intensify colour. Heat treatment is not a new thing. Take Carnelian; clever craftsmen in India knew way before CE that leaving the stone out in the sun to heat up would intensify its red colour. Black onyx is another example of tradition - saturated with burnt sugar for a deep black. The stones originate from different parts of the world, but we source from European companies in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Guided by the rainbow, we chose stones to reflect its range of colours. Grey Pearl has two selections, one opaque and one semi-transparent to transparent; seven colours in each group. See list at bottom of page. |

Swarovski - the secret ingredient
Or not so very secret at all, as Swarovski is the master of branding. All though, their crystal pearls are not screaming Swarovski like the crystal. Both crystal pearls and crystal beads are used in Grey Pearl studio's designs. When manmade means brilliance, I'm a big fan of manmade. Swarovski's products means brilliance on every level. |
About Swarovski® Crystals
Founded in 1895 - the Swarovski company has been making - and innovating - the ultimate crystal beads, crystal pearls, pendants and rhinestones. Swarovski® Crystals are precision-cut lead crystals created through a patented technology by Swarovski A.G.
Swarovski's crystals contain approximately 32% lead oxide while normal crystal glass has only 12-28 %. This increased lead content refracts light more efficiently, adding more lustre and sparkle to each crystal bead. The lead also adds to the weight.
Swarovski® implements the strictest quality control in the procuction process and all their crystal is still made in Austria.
