Dear english speaking friends!
Some news come in norwegian-only newsletters which is terribly lazy of me, I know, I know. Silly me, somehow I forget to use the blog for updates in english. Please forgive, it will hereby be mended!
The story behind the Wearable Berries (Bœrbare Bœr) is one that slipped. So here it is:
In september 2013 Marit Stang organised a very different exhibition. She kindly invited Anne Elisabeth Kiœr (visual artist) and me to join her. Marit is a dear friend and a visual artist with an outstanding colour vision I admire. The Berry Chains were new creations inspired by place, the season and the colours of Marit's paintings too.
An art walk
Marit's idea was to have a three day “flash” exhibition at her home, peaceful and stately Maarud Gaard in Norway, an hours drive north of Oslo. A daring project, considering the water conditions in Norway, but we were lucky.
For one long sunny autumn weekend visitors could wander all over the estate and enjoy colourful paintings, both inside sheds and stables as well as on their outside walls. Nice surprises appeared around every corner of the various buildings.
Chains in style
The berries stayed inside though. The berry-bracelets were exhibited amidst a collection of antique cars and motorcycles - quite an eclectic combination. Oddly pleasing too.
Inspired by summer berries and the colourful harvest season, I made a substantial collection of bracelets. All done with natural semi precious stones, on chain, naturally. Then grouped and presented by colour - 4 groups in all, displayed around a round table.
To my great surprise and pleasure the stone-chains seemed to attract men and women alike. Men were fascinated by the stone-facts and girls of all ages drawn to the variety of colours.
These wearable berries were not very edible - but certainly good enough eye- and arm-candy.
